Halloween was a great celebration this year! On Friday, October 31st, the entire school from EY to G12 dressed up, and even the principals participated in this amazing event! Did you catch them all? Decorations were hung up to spooky-fy our campus. The Maple Cafe joined in on the fun with their orange and black decorations. The grade 5 hallway had chains of skeletons and other spooky things. The spiral staircase had gravestones and cotton webs around every twist and turn.
This year, K-pop Demon Hunters was a popular theme, more than 50 people were dressed as either Rumi, Zoey or Mira. Noa from 5C dressed up as Mr Incredible with all the muscles and said, “my favourite part [of Halloween at CDNIS] is all the great costumes around the school.” Sebastian from 5C dressed up as a basketball player and said, “my favourite part is the class party and all the celebrations.”
Two students in 4C paired up and used their creativity to transform themselves into Nintendo Switch controllers. They spent a lot of time cutting and painting cardboard to make their costumes just right. Not only students, but teachers also got into the spirit of dressing up. What did you notice your teachers dress up as? Most teachers dressed up in a group and had a team costume. Grade 4 teachers used umbrella hats and put strings of paper all over it to look like jellyfish. Some students were inspired by movies or books, such as Harry Potter, Wednesday and Where is Waldo.
The Prep and Grade 1 students celebrated with a Halloween parade on the 6F pitch. Many parents in Grade 1 were dressed as flamingos and dinosaurs. Parents from Prep were wearing different types of colourful costumes. Everyone got a chance to walk through the parade.
Every year, Lower School enjoys singing “I Don’t Believe in Monsters” and “My Witches Brew” together in the Forum. This year we got the chance to dance to a new song called “Rave in the Grave”. The grade level costume contest was also held, where classes can nominate their most original, sustainable, and spookiest costumes. Each class’s student then gets asked to come up to the front of the Forum for the judges to select the final winners of each category.
Halloween was such a fun event for everyone because all the students and teachers enjoyed dressing up and becoming creative characters for a day. What are some of the most unique and interesting costumes you saw this Halloween?
A special thanks to our Performing Arts teachers who organize this event every year!
