This year’s Super Bowl made history. For the first time in the event’s 60-year run, the halftime show was performed entirely in Spanish by multi-Grammy award winner Bad Bunny. While the performance itself was electrifying, it represented something bigger: the power of immigrants and multicultural citizens that call America home. This wasn’t just a show; it was a cultural phenomenon that shook the entire world.
Benito Antonio Martinez Ocasio, better known by his stage name, Bad Bunny, is a 31-year old singer and was Spotify’s most streamed artist in 2025. During his thrilling performance, Ocasio sang hit songs like “DtMF” and “NUEVAYoL”. The show also featured guest appearances from other celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Pedro Pascal, and Cardi B. The set was designed to look like a traditional casita, reflecting Ocasio’s Puerto Rican heritage.
Many celebrities were present in the audience as Bad Bunny took to the field at the event, sparking numerous positive reactions on social media. ROSÉ, of BLACKPINK, who was present as an ambassador for Levi’s, expressed her love for the performance, particularly for the dancers who dressed in grass-adorned costumes, acting as moving bushes. After the performance, she took to her Instagram, posting: “Me! I wanna be one!”
While the performance was entirely in Spanish, Ocasio chose to say one line in English: “God bless America.” He followed this statement by listing nations from Central, South, and North America as dancers carried each nation’s flags. Towering over the audience, a billboard read “The only thing more powerful than hate is love”. As the performance closed, Ocasio held an American football with the slogan “Together, We Are America.” This sent waves across America, inducing mixed reactions from the audience. Some fans called it powerful, while others claimed that it “ruined the show for them”. The deeper message is clear: Ocasio could have chosen to take this opportunity to address the current political tensions in the country, but chose to focus on giving a strong performance filled with love instead.
