At the peak of last year’s Christmas season, the music department left both parents and students amazed with the annual Winter Concert on the evening of December 15th. Witnessing the breathtaking performances by CDNIS students of all ages, congratulations must be given to the hard work, effort, and passion dedicated to making the concert an exuberant success.
During the concert, students performed iconic and new tunes to bring about festive spirit. The Symphonic Winds band mesmerized the crowds with an exciting mashup of Frozen songs, composed by senior student Natalie Ko. A mellow “Carol of the Bells” was also brought to life by the Grade 9 and 10 Philharmonic Winds. Adding a touch of jazz to the evening, Grade 11 student Eliott Lindner delivered a catchy solo in a rendition of “Deck the Halls”.
Many individual performers were also given the opportunity to shine. The concert showcased a short and sweet flute solo by Enoch Yeung in the climax of “Encanto”, as well as a melodic trombone duet in “Totoro” by Grade 10 student Ian So and Grade 8 student Zander He. Meanwhile, the enchanting piece “A Winter’s Dawn” featured multiple solos that plunged the audience into a winter forest. And who can forget that incredible and nostalgic solo performed by Connor Zeng, Grade 9, in the song “Enter Sandman” that sent the audience into a time machine back to the 90s?
Given the awe-inspiring performance, all performers must be given a round of applause for their efforts. On top of that, without Mr. O’Toole, Ms. Ho, and Ms. Keider, the concert would not have been as successful as it was. A final shoutout must be given to all the talented musicians, teachers, and staff who made this performance glimmer with Christmas magic. With the astounding success of this winter concert, it is certainly hard to top the future winter concerts to come.
