The Transition Years Student Council (TYSC) is in charge of organising all of the fun events and DDDs for students in the Transition Years. But how does it work?
At a quick glance into the council, all class representatives and other members come together at weekly meetings to organise and plan enjoyable events. We brainstorm ideas and discuss strategies to enhance student life in the TY; on top of that, we create all the posters and Google Slides that you see displayed during these festivities!
During the process of generating ideas for events like the Christmas Spirit Week, the TYSC conducts brainstorming sessions, producing a range of ideas for the student body to experience. From these sparks of inspiration, amazing suggestions like the photo booth, reindeer race, and holiday card making come to life. The Upper School Student Council (USSC) makes improvements to these events, encouraging us to consider logistics such as how the student audience finds this activity amusing and what we can add or change to make it more enticing for students. After further discussions as a group, adjustments are made and the events you enjoy are brought to you by the TYSC! For instance, the last week of school before winter break was filled with lunchtime games and comfy dress down days. We collectively invest effort into making life in the TY as entertaining as possible.
Ms. Kathleen Lee assists us in running the TYSC as the teacher supervisor. She believes that the TYSC “helps to represent the student body,” providing help in planning engaging community-building events that the student body enjoys.
In the future, she hopes that the TYSC should have more involvement in important student life decisions alongside key figures like the TY principal. This way, the council can express its perspectives — as representatives of the TY community — on school matters that can further enrich student life and address the diverse opinions of TY students.
The TYSC is always open to suggestions and is continually striving to enhance student life on a daily basis. Our aim is to not only allow school life to be enjoyable, but to also be more practical. We value the input of students immensely and are committed to representing their interests. By organising engaging events and implementing suggestions, we hope to make student life in the TY as rewarding and enjoyable as possible. Please reach out to anyone on the council if you have any questions or concerns!
