In an exhilarating return to international sports competitions following the COVID-19 pandemic, CDNIS’ U20 boys’ football and volleyball teams emerged as champions in the highly anticipated South East Asia Student Activities Conference (SEASAC) competitions. Their remarkable victories brought pride and joy to the entire school community. Adding to the glory, both the U20 girls’ football and volleyball teams secured an impressive second place in their respective tournaments. These incredible achievements showcased our school’s prowess in the sports arena.
SEASAC is an annual event that invites student-athlete from international schools across Southeast Asia to showcase their skills, passion, and dedication to their sports. Our boys’ football team demonstrated exceptional talent and sheer determination, leaving their opponents in awe as they clinched the championship title. Their strategic plays, excellent athleticism, and cohesive teamwork were the hallmarks of their success, and they truly exemplified the spirit of the game.
The boys’ volleyball team mirrored such triumph, dominating the competition with their exceptional technique and synchronized teamwork. Their focus and relentless pursuit of excellence helped them secure first place amongst group of strong teams, further cementing our school’s reputation as a powerhouse in volleyball.
Russell Lam from the boy’s football team, expressed his joy and gratitude, saying, “I feel happy that I am able to represent my school after being in this community for so long, and that I am able to do it at an international level… it’s an experience that I will never forget.”
Volleyball captains Kai Fung and Jonathan Van Leersum also shared their excitement and gratitude, stating, “Being SEASAC champions is one of the greatest feelings we have had as CDNIS athletes. SEASAC has been a tournament we have been eyeing for a very long time. To go to our first SEASAC as a team and come out on top, we could not have asked for more. Thank you to all the coaches and the staff of the Athletic Department for organizing and supporting us throughout the season!”
Equally, the girls’ team exhibited resilience, skill, and sportsmanship throughout the championships. Their outstanding performance earned them a well-deserved second-place finish, underscoring their determination to excel despite fierce competition. Their tenacity and commitment to excellence were truly commendable, and they served as an inspiration to their peers.
Annabelle Au, captain of the girls’ football team, shared her thoughts on the tournament, saying, “Our competition did not have a championship because it was played like a league, but we came in second and undefeated. I am unbelievably proud of my team who stepped up and worked so hard so we can get to where we are, sweeping teams 6-0 and 8-0. Our last game was the most memorable, with everyone communicating and persevering through the heat. This was my first and last SEASAC. I am so happy to be able to play with these teammates and I will miss everyone a lot.”
Chloe Zhao, co-captain of the girls’ volleyball team, also reflected on her experience: “SEASAC 2023 was an experience that I will carry with me as a highlight of my senior year. Being able to travel and play in a tournament with my team which I absolutely love has been a blessing.”
The victories and accomplishments of our teams in the SEASAC football and volleyball competitions serve as a source of immense pride for our school community. They demonstrate the power of cooperation, determination, and resilience. Providing a shining example for future generations of CDNIS athletes, the memories of these successful tournaments will undoubtedly inspire younger students to continue striving for excellence both on and off the field.
Congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, and staff who made these achievements possible. Your diligence, dedication, and passion have not only brought glory to our school but also fostered a sense of unity within our community. As we celebrate these triumphs, let us cherish the spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie, and perseverance that lie at the heart of these victories.
