The US 2025 Tennis Open concluded last week, presenting thrilling performances by men’s champion Carlos Alcaraz and women’s champion Aryna Sabalenka in New York’s Arthur Ashe Stadium.  

Carlos Alcaraz, 22, defeated top-ranked Jannik Sinner in a tight four-set final (6-2,3-6,6-1 and 6-4), displaying his superb and relentless energy. “I’m trying to bring joy to the court, playing with a smile, when nothing concerns me at all,” he said after his victory in the match. Both finalists have played each other 15 times, with the recent triumph making the score between the two 10-5 to Alcaraz. “[Jannik and I] push each other to the limit every time,” he added. “Thanks to him, I’m a better player.” 

On the women’s side, Sabalenka defended her title with a win against Amanda Anisimova (6-3, 7-6), who she had previously lost to during the Wimbledon semifinals. Her performance throughout the match was superb, with her only dropping one set throughout the entire tournament. “The better I look, the better I perform,” Sabalenka said, highlighting her fierce on-court presence and determination. This victory marked Sabalenka’s second consecutive win at the US Open, cementing her as a powerhouse in women’s tennis.  

Although the US Open serves as the last Grand Slam of the year, tennis fans can continue to look forward to even more intense matches in both the women’s and the men’s discipline. As Alcaraz joked, “I’m seeing Sinner more than I’m seeing my family.”  With Sabalenka’s victory as well, it’s clear that tennis has become the sport to watch as the two continue racking up titles for the rest of the season.
