With August 14th supposedly being the “last first day of school” for us seniors, today was supposed to be a day filled with both excitement and trepidation; for many, it would be a reunion with friends that we couldn’t see over the summer but also a reminder that we’re in the home stretch of our high school journey as the summer holiday concludes. Beyond the senior year, the first day of school is something that every CDNIS student can look forward to as a fresh start to another stage in their academic journey.
However, the much anticipated first day of classes were abruptly cancelled due to the black rain warning signal issued at 7:50am this morning, which is now no longer in force. The severe weather has been brought on by Tropical Storm Podul, which currently skirts Hong Kong. The Observatory notes that the storm is forecasted to weaken gradually as the day progresses.
CDNIS G8 student Selene C shared that she “was really excited to go back to school to see [her] friends and enjoy [her] last year of transition years before going into high school”. Additionally, senior Ethan C sees the day as an opportunity to still “get work done from home”, but looks forward to his return to school.
Although the school year hasn’t started the way any of us thought it would, the school will soon be filled again with the buzz of students, both new and returning, and we’ll find ourselves in the full swing of things before we know it!
