Over the past summer, students from CDNIS and across the world participated in the school’s summer program. Spanning from June to August, the enriching program offered a wide range of academic, athletic, and creative activities keeping students engaged and learning throu- ghout the summer holiday.
For younger students in EY1 and EY2, the “Bilingual Multi-Minis” course provided an exci- ting introduction to a series of fun and hands-on activities in both English and Mandarin. The course allowed children ages 4-6 to engage in mini-lessons and activities in areas of art, sports, and music.
Through working on creative projects and singing nursery rhymes with their peers, these students explored new concepts and developed important skills in the program.
Furthermore, many of the lower school students participated in the “Multi-Activity Camp” where they engaged in fitness, arts and crafts, and design projects. In addition to these fun and engaging activities, many of the tasks involved the students working as a team, such as during the sport sessions where they played dodgeball and basketball, thus developing their communication skills.
On top of these programs, the school also had workshops catered to a variety of interests. For instance, the “creativity station” allowed students to engage in a wide variety of art related activities, such as painting and drawing. For those who preferred sports, athletic programs or- ganised by both the school and external organisations were offered. Students participated in sports like football, basketball, volleyball, and swimming which developed their physical fitness and strength.
Another highlight of the summer program was the chance for older students and CDNIS alumni to work as interns. These interns assisted teachers during the lessons, and provided support to younger students in their classes and activities.
This valuable experience allowed for interns to not only develop their interpersonal skills but also building confidence and familiarity in communicating with different age groups. Hence, many interns found this experience extremely rewarding and meaning- ful, even developing close relationships with their students.
As the summer program came to an end, students left with new skills and friendships. The combination of academic, athletic, and creative activities ensured that each student could find something that resonated with their interests. Therefore, the summer pro- gram encouraged students to build their curiosity amongst different areas of learning in the engaging and inclusive environment of CDNIS.
