McLaren’s dominance over the weekend and conflicting emotions towards Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and Kimi Antonelli were highlighted at the 2025 Miami Grand Prix. Oscar Piastri secured his fourth win of the season, which led to a dominant 1 – 2 finish in Miami with teammate Lando Norris, while Max Verstappen and Kimi Antonelli showed promise but struggled to match the race pace of the 2 McLarens.
McLaren displayed impressive and steady speed from the start of the race. Although Max started on pole, Oscar Piastri drove patiently and applied pressure to pass him by lap 14. Meanwhile, Lando Norris recovered well from a first-lap clash with Max Verstappen and returned to second place. The McLarens finished 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the grid, which clearly shows their advantage moving forward.
The sprint race was as exciting as the main event itself, with Kimi Antonelli claiming sprint pole at the age of 18 years old, becoming the youngest-ever F1 driver to claim pole position in any format. However, it was not all sunshine and rainbows, as Norris won the F1 Sprint after a late safety car, which got him ahead of Oscar Piastri just in time. Antonelli had a pitlane incident with an unsafe release by Red Bull and Max Verstappen that hurt his chances of securing a points finish. Despite all the setbacks, Antonelli stayed positive and said he is “learning a lot from his first season”.
Ferrari also had a difficult weekend with Charles Leclerc aquaplaning into the wall before the sprint race and team strategy problems that affected both drivers ‘ results, especially Lewis Hamilton, as team radio exchanges showed frustration as he struggled with race strategy and team orders.
