The South East Asia Student Activities Conference (SEASAC) has made a spectacular return this season, reigniting the competitive spirit in varsity volleyball and football student athletes. Our U20 teams travelled to various countries, including Singapore for Girls’ Volleyball, Vietnam for Boys’ Volleyball, Malaysia for Girls’ Football, and Thailand for Boys’ Football.
The girls’ volleyball team made us proud as runners-up in a thrilling 3-2 final in Singapore against Tanglin Trust School. Rachael Chow shared her insights, highlighting the unique experience an international tournament offered her and her team. “It was such a different experience compared to local competitions. We encountered various playing styles from teams across Asia and created unforgettable memories,” she explained. Teamwork played a crucial role during high-pressure games, especially in the finals. “Everyone stepped up their support, which made a huge difference in overcoming tough moments,” Rachael added.
In addition to the girls’ volleyball team’s success, our young 7-a-side U20 girls SEASAC football team competed in a highly competitive tournament in Kuala Lumpur. They showcased their skills and determination, ultimately grabbing silver following a close 1-0 match in the finals. This achievement not only highlights the team’s hard work and dedication but also reflects the growing talent within our football program. The girls displayed exceptional teamwork and resilience throughout the tournament, overcoming challenges and pushing through tough matches. Their journey to the finals was marked by impressive performances, illustrating their ability to work together under pressure.
The boys’ volleyball team travelled to Saigon, Vietnam for four days of competition, finishing 5th in Division 1. The intensity of the competition was evident, especially after being promoted to Division 1 this year. Team captain Kai Fung expressed his joy at spending quality time with his teammates and sharing their mutual love for volleyball. “My favourite moment was just being able to bond with my team,” he said. Kai also reflected on how this experience broadened his perspective on sports. “Volleyball is such a global sport among international schools in Southeast Asia, and it was inspiring to see teams from different countries come together,” he remarked.
The football boys’ team competed in Bangkok, Thailand, for a three-day tournament, finishing 7th overall. They faced intense competition from other schools, playing under the sizzling heat of Thailand, where temperatures soared above 30°C daily. However, the team made the most of the experience and created unforgettable memories. Justin Chung shared his experience, encouraging students considering future overseas sports trips to seize the opportunity: “Enjoy the moment; it’s not always about winning or losing.”
Season 1 SEASAC has marked the start of an exciting year filled with numerous athletic achievements. Congratulations to all our teams for their hard work and dedication; we are excited to see what is next for our athletes as they proudly represent our school!
